Migrating from South Africa to Australia nine years ago, Boutique Homes customers Brigitte and Scott, together with their two sons, soon fell in love with Geelong’s Surf Coast.
With world-famous beaches, natural surroundings and a relaxed lifestyle, it was the perfect place to call home.
Building their first house in Torquay in 2014 the family loved their single storey Barcelona so much they decided to build another one after selling in 2016.
‘Choosing the same home design again was a no-brainer,’ says Brigitte.

‘The home’s open flow and abundance of light and the amazing kitchen won our hearts. We knew we wanted to remain in this area and found Mt Duneed the perfect location to suit our family needs – it’s so central!’
The second-time home builders were looking for an estate with the perfect community lifestyle and block to match their dream home, particularly an east-west orientation with north aspect to the side to maximise natural light in the home’s living areas.
‘We wanted to find land that would specifically suit the Barcelona with a slightly bigger block so that we had the option of putting in a pool where it would get all the northern sun, all day,’ explains Brigitte.
‘Orientation is everything. A house is so much homelier if it’s light and warm.’
One of her favorite parts of the building experience was when the slab was laid because that’s when the journey started to feel real.
‘Then when the roof goes on and encloses the space, you get a true sense of how your new home is really going to feel.’

Accents and features that show off the raw beauty of nature were incorporated throughout the interior spaces to provide an element of rustic flair and a relaxed mood.
‘We’ve added an earthy, natural touch by inviting the outdoors in and have one-off pieces that add warmth and style,’ she says.
Building a home is one of those memorable milestones, which is why Brigitte decided to document their building journey @our2ndbarcelona31 on Instagram to share updates with family and friends, but soon discovered it was also a great way to meet other Boutique customers.
‘It’s been such a great platform to learn from others, sharing advice and watching how everyone puts their own style and creativity into their home.’
In one of her Instagram posts, Brigitte sums up her absolute delight by describing their new house at Armstrong as a place her family loves to come home to. Simply put – #myhappyplace.
‘Our home to us is our soft place to land. It’s a place for our family to relax and feel at ease.’
