Lucinda and Brendan’s Bayside abode is breath-taking before you even step through the front door. Featuring the Montpellier floorplan, you know the home is something special as soon as you catch sight of the unique cream-on-white Hamptons façade.

‘The floorplan included absolutely everything that we wanted in a home, especially the open plan kitchen, family, and dining area that flows out onto the alfresco. The fact that we can close the front door and switch off from the outside world is the best feeling,’ shares Lucinda.

Lucinda and Brendan – along with their two young girls, Viola and Daphne, and their Cavoodle Chase – originally planned to renovate their Californian bungalow but soon realised how quickly this would blow out the budget. ‘We went so far as to have plans drawn up, but when we began looking into the build, we found that the cost of achieving our dream home was prohibitive. Not only that, we felt that we actually didn’t have the time or the inclination to be a part of every step of the process, and instead wanted to feel comfortable to defer to the experts – which we did with Boutique Homes,’ explains Lucinda.

With Brendan’s role as a Retail Manager in Melbourne and Lucinda working full time as a secondary teacher on the Mornington Peninsula, their home location was a key consideration. A Knockdown Rebuild allowed the pair to capitalise on their large block in a skyrocketing real estate market while remaining in the suburb they love.

What to expect from the build process

The family first heard about Boutique Homes from a friend who was also a satisfied customer. But it was the display homes and quote process that had Brendan and Lucinda convinced.

‘As we got more serious about the idea of building, the Montpellier floorplan really appealed to us. We were really happy with not only the standard inclusions – which were great – but also their flexibility,’ says Lucinda.

‘Our interactions with all of Boutique Homes’ staff were also fabulous.’

The couple’s Interior Design Consultation was an invaluable source of advice. Sarah listened closely to the couple’s vision for their home, and then provided the colours and materials to make their dream come alive.

‘She was able to provide us with options that reflected our style and functionality, so we didn’t have to look through every tile or colour. We just didn’t have the time or patience for that,’ says Lucinda.

‘We were grateful that the process remained enjoyable and did not turn into a chore.

The couple’s top tip for getting the most out of your Interior Design Consultation? Do your research and gain an understanding of your style but remain open to the experienced advice of your Boutique Homes Interior Designer.

‘Don’t go into the consultation wanting a specific tile or brick. And make sure you consider your lifestyle – not just what looks good on Instagram or Pinterest,’ says Lucinda.

‘It’s much better to look at the process as part of something much bigger.’

Creating our unique interior design

Lucinda and Brendan wanted to create a tranquil family sanctuary that invited relaxation. From the open plan dining and living spaces flooded with natural light to the timber feature staircase and herringbone wood-look flooring, their interiors exude the calmness and serenity of coastal living.

‘We wanted to keep things light, bright and airy, while still remaining warm,’ says Lucinda.

‘The Hamptons façade was a no-brainer for us. It is a more classic style and made us feel as though we were paying a small tribute to the original home. The façade also complements our suburb and neighbouring homes beautifully.’

Instagram research played an integral part in creating the final look for their family home. The pair leaned on the experience of Boutique’s past and present customers to avoid building pitfalls and to scope the pros and cons of upgrades and selections.

‘We spent countless hours scrolling through Instagram, with social media a fantastic source of inspiration in the early planning stages. It also alerted us to aspects of building we would never have thought of,’ says Lucinda.
