Australian Building Codes Board and the Victorian Government are on a mission to create greener and more accessible homes for our future.
That’s why, from 1 May 2024, all new builds in Victoria are required to meet new standards, including a minimum seven-star energy rating and improved accessibility features.
What do these building code changes mean for Victorian homebuyers?
Long term, these updates to the building code are good news for new homebuyers and for the environment. More energy efficient and accessible homes help to reduce energy bills and are more comfortable to live in. Plus, they future proof your property for your family or potential buyers.
The catch? These features unavoidably cost a little more to build.
To help support the creation of your dream home, Boutique Homes is giving you the chance to secure current pricing and offers until 30th April 2024. So, it pays to get in quick and sign up now!
Here’s three reasons to consider building before the new building codes come into play:
1. Energy-efficient homes cost more to build
After 30th April, you’ll need to pay a little extra to comply with the Government’s new building requirements. For example, stepping up from the current six-star energy efficiency rating may require key additions such as double-glazed windows. Changes to the accessibility of your home, such as stepless entry and easier access to bathrooms, also cost a little more.
For the budget-conscious, it pays to lock in our current offerings before the 30th April deadline. Plus, you’ll have peace of mind knowing there won’t be any nasty surprises, thanks to our upfront and fixed pricing.
2. Greater design flexibility
After 1 May, all new builds in Victoria will need to comply to specific energy-efficiency and accessibility requirements. Until then, you get to choose the upgrades and bespoke changes that matter most to your family.
Perhaps, you’d prefer to make your home more energy efficient with our all-electric pack upgrades or level up your homes thermal performance with double glazed windows, rather than build a home with the new liveable housing design requirements.
Signing your building contract before 30th April puts you in the driver’s seat. You can choose the efficiency features you prefer, rather than complying to the breadth of features set out by the Government’s building code changes.
3. You’ll lock in the high-quality designs and service you know and love
For those adverse to change, now is the time to lock in the high-quality home designs you know and love.
This includes our minimum six-star energy rating homes. In addition to our premium standard inclusions such as 2550mm high ceilings, 40mm Caesarstone stone benchtops and three-coat Dulux Wash and Wear paint to all internal walls.
